With more than a century of history, The Houstonian has a long tradition of thorough reporting and innovative journalism. Extending that legacy could include developing and expanding newsletters, social media and podcast publications as well as fostering collaboration with student radio and television newsrooms, journalism classes and Bearkat Student Media. The ideal candidate has experience advising student media and/or running a digital-first newsroom and a desire to coach and guide enthusiastic student journalists.
The selected applicant will teach a 4/4 course load, blending hands-on practicum courses coaching Houstonian students with existing journalism courses on news reporting, public affairs reporting, copy editing and/or mobile and social media journalism. The faculty member may also create and implement new courses that provide workforce readiness skills necessary in the current media landscape. As a Professor of Practice, the faculty member should expect to participate in departmental and university service and remain active in the field, reflecting such activity in teaching and student engagement. The position begins Fall 2024.

Reporter
Archer County News
Location: Archer City, Texas
Salary: This position will be paid based on experience with opportunities to grow within the organization. The position also includes PTO, paid holidays, and expense reimbursement.
Qualifications: We are looking for a college graduate with a knowledge of AP style, the ability to meet deadlines and knowledge of Adobe suite or someone with at least two years of journalism experience. Experience with a camera is preferred but not required.
The Archer County News is looking for a self-motivated reporter to join our team in Archer City. A qualified candidate should have reliable transportation, strong communication skills and a willingness to learn.
Other responsibilities include: covering the sporting events and athletes of the three county high schools; helping the editorial team cover and report on city council and school board meetings as assigned; helping produce six different special sections throughout the year; taking photos of county events as needed; proofreading the paper and checking advertisements for correct information; answering phones and helping with other office tasks as needed.
The Archer County News covers the municipalities of Archer City, Holliday, Lakeside City, Megargel, Scotland and Windthorst as well Archer City ISD, Holliday ISD and Windthorst ISD. The publication produces 51 editions and six special sections annually.
