2025 Summer Pulliam Fellowship Program 

he Arizona Republic, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is inviting college students and new graduates to apply for 2025 Pulliam Fellowships.  

The 10-week paid summer fellowship places emerging professionals in a major metro newsroom working alongside award-winning journalists.  

The long-running, prestigious fellowship offers professional-level experience and for years has served a major job pipeline. Many participants end up with positions in newsrooms around the USA TODAY Network.  

Positions are available for news reporting; sports reporting; photography and video; digital production; audience and social engagement; and audio production. 

Requirements:

  • College juniors, seniors and graduate students and recent graduates are eligible.
  • Previous journalism internships or experience as a journalist on a college newspaper is required.
  • This role requires a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.

Summer College Intern Reporter

SPOKANE, Washington

Full Time: 12 Weeks

Start date: Flexible, but usually between May 19 and June 23

Salary: $18 an hour

What you’ll do:

  • Prepare accurate, fair, balanced and carefully researched stories to meet assigned deadlines.
  • Write five to eight stories a week.
  • Maintain good communication with editors for assignments and story ideas.
  • Remain flexible to cover a wide range of features and hard news stories, including breaking news that could include violent crime, fires and other public safety matters.
  • Consider art possibilities for every story, both in print and online, to increase and improve audience engagement; pull in graphics, design, photo and online team members so they can gain a better understanding of the story, when appropriate.
  • Write stories clearly and concisely with knowledge of AP style in a timely matter.
  • Pitch your own story ideas.
  • Write online headlines, attach photos to stories online and properly code stories as instructed for online purposes.
  • Take photos using cellphone for your stories when photographers are unavailable.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Chronicle of Education

  • A resume.
  • A cover letter
  • The email addresses and phone numbers of three references; at least two of them should have edited or supervised your journalism.
  • Provide five published clips that show us what you’re capable of (articles, links to articles, links to multimedia projects, or any other kind of reporting project). Candidates should have some prior journalism experience.

We’re the country’s biggest newsroom covering higher ed. We regularly win Education Writers Association awards and others, including honors from the Society of Professional Journalists and American Society of Magazine Editors.

– The internship is designed to benefit you. Your only duties are reporting and writing, and there are so many structures here to help you level up your skills.

– You’ll be paid $800 a week before taxes. Remote work is available in some states.

– We’re committed to building a diverse newsroom and journalism workforce, and we have a $10,000 scholarship available for applicants who will be students in 2025 and are interested in covering minority-serving institutions and diversity and discrimination in higher education during their internship.
