Eddye Gallagher
Tarrant County College
Eddye Gallagher taught at Tarrant County College from 1970 to 2017, serving as director of student publications from 1999 to 2017. She was the adviser of The Collegian for more than 20 years. During that time, The Collegian was an ACP Pacemaker Award winner once, a CMA Pinnacle Award winner three times for Best Two-Year Newspaper and Website, and a two-time winner of the Texas APME award for Best Non-Daily College Newspaper in Texas. She was named a Distinguished Adviser by CMA in 2014. She also served as president of both TIPA and TCCJA and was named TIPA’s Adviser of the Year in 2005. She was named to TCCJA’s Hall of Fame in 2017. She also was regional director of Society of Professional Journalists and served on its national board.
Eddye has done so much to educate, inspire and improve the lives of community college journalism students and advisers. Countless students now have careers in journalism because of her expertise and passion. She served as a good steward not only for Tarrant County College’s journalism program but also for TIPA, TCCJA and SPJ. She has mentored a number of top-notch advisers both in Texas and beyond. She has done so much to make TIPA a stronger, more vital organization, both as president and as a rank-and-file member.
