Place Name: First Place Contestant Name: UT-Arlington Entry Title: UTA's Spider-Man Entry Credit: Christine Vo Judge Comment: I liked the long exposure to show the bustle of campus and the light on Spider-Man. Conceptually, nice. I wish the background was cleaner or incorporated in the storytelling.
Place Name: Second Place Contestant Name: UT-El Paso Entry Title: Dia de los Muertos Entry Credit: Nathaniel Flores Judge Comment: A nice traditional portrait. Watch the bottom of your frame. The crop halfway up the subject’s knee was distracting.
Place Name: Third Place Contestant Name: UT-Austin Entry Title: -30- portrait Entry Credit: Naina Srivastava Judge Comment: The concept was very fun and effective, however, the flat lighting detracts from the overall impact.
Place Name: Honorable Mention Contestant Name: University of North Texas Entry Title: Owner Armand Kohandani shows off several film prints he has made on May 24, 2025. Entry Credit: Aiden Gonzalez Judge Comment: The environment is great. The subject is soft focused. Also, if the photographer moved a little more to their left, it would clean up the vertical shelf line protruding from the subject’s head.
Competition Comment: Overall a lot of really nice photos. Some of them lacked the character essence required of a portrait. Not all candid images can pass for portraits. Unfortunately, I could not judge Texas Tech Toreador entries due to broken links.
