  • Place Name: First Place
    Contestant Name: TCU
Entry Title: Three's company: How a decade-old law failed to protect family housing near TCU
    Entry Credit: Kiley Beykirch
Judge Comment: Very well done storytelling with use of character to enhance an already compelling topic that ties in nicely at the end. The use of different text block styles and use of images/graphics helps break up the story in a way that makes it easier to read and enhance the story by helping the reader visualize what they're reading about. Overall great!
  • Place Name: Second Place
    Contestant Name: Texas State
Entry Title: Sacred Springs Powwow continues to guide people through culture
Entry Credit: Carlene Ottah, Meg Boles, Laura Walker, Rhiannon Claw
Judge Comment: Very informative and easy to follow and understand. The use of descriptive imagery and the selection of quotes made the story very compelling. Photos are well composed and the reporter package was filmed and edited very nicely.
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: UT-El Paso
Entry Title: Cafecito en Socorro: Café Piro
Entry Credit: Jesie Garcia, Sebastian Perez-Navarro
Judge Comment: Very well done package. I would have like the reporter voiceover to be slower and the interview audio to be boosted some. The written article was very well written but a little hidden, I almost missed it next to the square webtiles. I really enjoyed the length and detail of the article and think it was great for the story subject. I really enjoyed the images and their descriptions and the graph of the Piro pueblos and think they enhanced the story.
  • Place Name: Honorable Mention
    Contestant Name: UT-Arlington
Entry Title: UTA unveils new spirit horse
Entry Credit: Samarie Goffney, Leslie Orozco, Huda Qureshi, Joel Solis
Judge Comment: The story was clean, concise and informative. I really liked the pictures, their compositions and felt like they told a story on their own. The map graphic was awesome and helped the reader understand the scope of the project in the community. I would have liked to hear about some of these other projects even if it was just a mention of their theme or locations to help round out the story a little more.
  • Competition Comment: Students did a great job of identifying stories in their own campus communities and broader communities. Winning entries showed strong writing skills and used images, videos, and graphics to enhance their story subject.
