Judge Comment: Really excellent use of multiple social media platforms to reach your community. The camera and sound quality is awesome which makes the content even more enjoyable to watch, on top of covering interesting topics. Here's what I'd do to make your content even better: be careful with interview edits, too many jump cuts can be visually jarring to the viewer (the YouTube short specifically) and the interview answer loses its authenticity. Instead, you can ask your interviewee the question again and ask for a XX second answer. Also, look up how to change the external microphone settings to make sure the settings are supporting the environment you're in (dean post was a little echoy for instance) Nice graphics to create brand and uniformity. Overall really great job!!
  • Place Name: Second Place
    Contestant Name: Trinity University
    Entry Title: @Trinitonian on Instagram
Entry Credit: Beau Diede, Trinitonian Staff
Judge Comment: Really nice use of video and picture/graphic post variety to gain awareness of your stories! I think the posts were thoughtfully made and interesting to the viewer considering the engagement -- great for gaining eyes on the actual news articles. The content and graphics/branding were very crisp which made it look like a professional, trusted news source. To make your video content even better, I would have liked to see an external mic or captions used in the reel. It makes sure the interviewee's message is heard clearly and makes it more accessible to those who cannot hear or even just use social media without sound, etc.
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: Houston-Clear Lake
    Entry Title: @UHCLTheSignal
    Entry Credit: Signal Editorial Team
Judge Comment: You all have a great influencer/personality with that student narrating the reels. I enjoyed how they were edited and filmed and the subtitles used with them. I would have liked more info in the description for the audio announcement post. I would have liked to see the newsletter post's graphics have shorter descriptions or maybe even bullet points on each picture because the long descriptions made the text small which makes me as a viewer want to skip.
  • Place Name: Honorable Mention
    Contestant Name: Tyler Junior College
    Entry Title: Soccer Series
    Entry Credit: Adriana Salazar Gomez
Judge Comment: Really excellent photography and graphic design! These pictures are really cool and compelling! I see that all of the posts were posted on Dec. 4, I would have liked to see some strategic use of posting on a schedule to continue to drive readers to the latest issue. I would have also liked to see more variety of content types like short form video.
  • Competition Comment: Winning entries showed advanced use of photography/videography and graphic use, used a variety of content types, and demonstrated a thoughtful strategy to promote their content.
