Competition Comment: I was impressed with the quality and quantity of this year's entries. The future of sportswriting looks very bright indeed. The first and second-place winners stood out even above this crowded field. The sports betting column was excellent in its organization and research, starting with a relatable experience and finishing the thought with a flourish. The runner-up would have won most years, but again, competition was extremely tough. Showing a cross-section of athletes' experiences, even briefly, was something I hadn't seen before, and the storytelling was excellent. Well done!
