TIPA Awards 2024

Social Media - General Coverage ( Division 2) Back

  • Place Name: First Place
    Contestant Name: Tarrant County College
Entry Title: Screenshots of Election Day
    Entry Credit: Collegian Staff
    Judge Comment: None
  • Competition Comment: Not all entries met submission criteria. Would prefer to only award honorable mention to TCC and not award any winners at all. (Technically wasn’t able to on the back end of the judging software.) Feedback for each entry: Dallas College - Richland - Only content submitted was about the students reporting, not necessarily the reporting itself. Behind-the-scenes content is great. But showcasing it along with your reporting on social media would have been better. - Also recommend tailoring the content per platform. You can share the same content on all platforms you like, but you should consider the audience habits and the language used on those platforms to make the content match. If someone can see the same exact caption and series of photos on Instagram and Facebook, for example, why would they need to follow your news organization in both places? Lamar University (both entries) - Did not contain synopsis of the content. - Captions should include more information, similar to a brief at least, if there isn’t information included on the photos/graphics. - “Read the newspaper on Wednesday” campaign is cute, but would go further if the content included what information one might find in the newspaper on Wednesday. Consider similar video but asking students/readers what they look forward to most about their Wednesday paper. Tarrant County College - Election coverage was well spread out and coordinated across platforms. Would’ve been great to include a wrap-up Instagram carousel post the following day summarizing the content reported on the night before as part of this set of posts. Also, if individual reporters were sharing social content, the reposts from the newspaper account would have been great to include as well to showcase the breadth of reporting for the audience.
