TIPA Awards 2024

In-Depth Reporting ( Division 3) Back

  • Place Name: First Place
    Contestant Name: Trinity University
Entry Title: Exposing the silent threat
    Entry Credit: Katie Amdur
Judge Comment: Good attempt at taking on difficult topics: Title IX, stalking, campus police, etc. In the future, I'd suggest you try to add more specific examples of what students endured with stalking/harassment, as that can help to make a reader better understand the extent of the threats against them.
  • Place Name: Second Place
    Contestant Name: Amarillo College
    Entry Title: Election 2024
    Entry Credit: Ranger Staff
Judge Comment: A commendable job of localizing the election with such thorough coverage from different angles, plus multi-media components.
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: UT-Tyler
Entry Title: ‘Everybody Can Gain from Accessibility’: The Accessibility of UT Tyler
    Entry Credit: Paulina Mata
Judge Comment: Good job chronicling disability issues on campus. Suggestion for future reporting: check out lawsuits that have been filed on this issue against your university and how the university has responded.
  • Place Name: Honorable Mention
    Contestant Name: A&M-Kingsville
Entry Title: Tickets, tickets, more tickets
    Entry Credit: Christopher Olivarez
Judge Comment: Interesting topic: number of parking tickets are soaring! Would have liked to see more reaction from students/campus visitors who find themselves on the receiving end.
