- Place Name: First Place
Contestant Name: Texas State
Entry Title: Transfer quarterback settles civil suit stemming from sexual assault case
Entry Credit: Nichaela Shaheen
Judge Comment: This series of stories uncovered a scandal that the student body and readers otherwise would not have known about, and the coverage appears to have led to tangible change as the player was removed from the team. Documents were well used to substantiate what sources were saying, and the full picture of the player, his history and past indiscretions was provided through multiple stories. I can't think of any other sources you could have spoken to other than de Laura himself. Amazing work.
