Overall Design - Web ( Division 1) Back

  • Place Name: First Place
    Contestant Name: UT-El Paso
    Entry Title: theprospectordaily.com
    Entry Credit: Erik Acosta
Judge Comment: By far the best entry of all submitted. The website design is original and while using a template creates a distinct identity for the paper and university. quippy headlines, thoughtful variety of stories and easy on the eyes. great job.
  • Place Name: Second Place
    Contestant Name: UT-Austin
    Entry Title: The Daily Texan
Entry Credit: Morgan Severson, Lucero Ponce
Judge Comment: Too hard to find anything to hate about the Daily Texan. Incredibly professional look. Shows student engagement from top to bottom and plenty of bylines spanning beats. Great sidebars. Spanish engagement should be a given but isn't. Work on graphics.
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: UT-Arlington
    Entry Title: The Shorthorn website
    Entry Credit: The Shorthorn staff
Judge Comment: I expect nothing less but excellence from UTA and this site proves their excellence. Strengths are variety of stories in the carousel, the ease of navigation and great visuals. Fantastic content that is condensed well but feels claustrophobic when scrolling.
  • Place Name: Honorable Mention
    Contestant Name: UT-Rio Grande Valley
    Entry Title: utrgvradio.com
Entry Credit: Amira Garcia, Jan Trejo
Judge Comment: Little to visually dislike about the hip website. Outstanding graphics and an engaging sidebar. The content is thin, and the correlation between radio and content is unclear. But scrappy is always appreciated.
  • Competition Comment: Every entry proved students are working their worth, whether or not the visuals show it. Very impressed especially with the scrappiest of operations at small colleges as much as the big ones. All deserve to win something. Beware of visually stimulating readers, color clashes and remember to provide translation services, something that may save journalism.
