  • Place Name: First Place
    Contestant Name: UT-El Paso
Entry Title: Minero Magazine Spring 2022 Cover
Entry Credit: Brandy Ruiz, Hugo Hinojosa
Judge Comment: I am the BIGGEST fan of minimalism. The font? Perfection. The lightest hue of beige? Amazing. The topics you highlight on the cover? Captivating. I want to know more about dating six feet apart. I want to know about K-POP on the border and student tips. It's perfect.
  • Place Name: Second Place
    Contestant Name: SMU
Entry Title: SMU Look magazine: The Road Ahead (Spring/Summer 2022)
Entry Credit: Maria Chammas, Ethan Rios, Olivia Porsch, Caroline Soja
Judge Comment: Not gonna lie, I was very in awe of this cover. It was the font of "Look" and the pop of color from the green outfit. The only critique I have to give is about the titles of the cover lines. The text is too close and needs to be spread a bit. Aside from that, perfection.
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: Brookhaven College
    Entry Title: Texana Magazine Cover
Entry Credit: Rosa Poetschke, Brandon Donner
Judge Comment: You made me hungry, which is what I'm assuming y'all were trying to do. The only issues I had were creativity and organization. It's nothing super bad, just I feel like I've seen photos like this before. I'd perhaps prefer the same photo but maybe with more sauce and it dripping. That would've been a little more enticing. As well, try to bounce the flash elsewhere because it washes out the sandwich a bit. As for organization, maybe a bit of color (most likely grabbed from the sandwich or the "Hot" in the background) to highlight one word such as "Absurd" or "Staples."
  • Place Name: Honorable Mention
    Contestant Name: SMU
Entry Title: SMU Look magazine: Power Up (Winter 2022/23)
Entry Credit: Caroline Soja, Olivia Porsch, Alex Daly-Hill , Maria Chammas
Judge Comment: Beautiful cover again, but this time it lacks a bit with organization. I love the use of color, but the text in white should have moved to the bottom right corner to balance the "Power Up" on the left.
  • Competition Comment: Remember, all critiques are helpful and will just allow you to grow. When you get into the professional world, people will be a lot harsher.
