Place Name: First Place Contestant Name: University of North Texas Entry Title: Crypto's Final Frontier Entry Credit: Austin Hedgecoth Judge Comment: Well done report on what can be a confusing topic. Very good editing, with great graphics. Really interesting opening, with the clacking of the typewriter, but that got a little annoying as you went into the story. I didn't understand at the beginning why that guy was so dark. You finally explained that, but not until 2:30 into the story...and was he really that anonymous? If I knew him, I'd definitely be able to tell who he was...UNLESS...was it a fake beard and did you alter his voice?
Place Name: Second Place Contestant Name: University of North Texas Entry Title: EPA sights problems in DFW Entry Credit: Austin Hedgecoth Judge Comment: Good editing, great graphics, good b-roll. A somewhat confusing story that you handled well. But, I wish there had been a little more connection to why students should care about this issue.
Place Name: Third Place Contestant Name: UT-Rio Grande Valley Entry Title: Brownsville PUB Places CEO on Leave Entry Credit: Xavier Aguilar Judge Comment: A confusing story that you did your best to explain. Good graphics. Cutaways were used well. At 2:53, the moving wide shot showing the chromakey wall was a little odd. Audio was hollow during the interview at 4:44.
Place Name: Honorable Mention Contestant Name: UT-Rio Grande Valley Entry Title: SPECIAL REPORT: Texas Gubernatorial Debate Entry Credit: Alba Cantu Gutierrez, Karen Lucero Judge Comment: Good use of video from outside sources, and trying to help us understand what went on during the debate if we missed it. Because you were using someone else's video, I would have taken the bug out when it interfered with the super that was already on the screen...that was annoying when I wanted to read what it said.
