Place Name: First Place Contestant Name: A&M-San Antonio - El Espejo Entry Title: Lives Robbed: Forever in 4th Grade Entry Credit: Sarah Cervera, Miranda Rodriguez Judge Comment: No-doubt winner.
A double-meaning headline works best when it reads clearly if you don't even notice the second meaning, and this succeeds. With a light subject, some degree of "Ha! Did you see what I did there?" can be fun, but with a tragedy, any play on words should remain unobtrusive.
"Forever in 4th grade" also works very well.
Additionally, the design was well-conceived.
Bravo!
Place Name: Second Place Contestant Name: Northeast Texas Commmunity College Entry Title: Headlines Entry Credit: Michael "Doc" Anderson, Abigail Barnard , Ian Griffin Judge Comment: All three are solid headlines, but not the kind that usually win headline contests. I especially liked the brief ones, and it was the third one, with "ASL" standing for "A Silent Life" as well as American Sign Language, that lifted this entry into second place.
Place Name: Third Place Contestant Name: A&M-San Antonio - El Espejo Entry Title: Sex, Drag & Rock 'N' Roll Entry Credit: Miranda Rodriguez Judge Comment: This is a good twist on the common phrase, and I'm proud to say I'm barely cultured enough to recognize the Playbill treatment.
